Developing the Positive Power of Youth
|Building our future, one student at a time...|
Since its inception in 1985, the Super Leaders organization has trained 24,000 Super Leaders students under the supervision of founder and chairman Brig Owens, a former Washington Redskin. Over our twenty-three year history, Super Leaders students have graduated high school at a rate of 95%-100%, with more than 75% of Super Leaders either entering college or joining the military each year. If our graduates don't choose higher education or military service, we help them find meaningful jobs through our vast business network. Many Super Leaders alumni return to work as junior and senior advisors in the Super Leaders youth leadership training program. Additionally, Super Leaders alumni hold leadership positions at our partner Boys and Girls Club organizations in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Our target population is 11-19 year old low-income students in Washington, D.C. region public schools who show potential to succeed despite their at-risk behavior. The ethnicity of our students reflects the populations of the schools we serve, and we support diversity training for our student members and staff. With more than 700 students in our program in the 2007-2008 academic year, Super Leaders serves nine middle and senior high schools. In the District of Columbia, we serve five schools in Wards 4, 6, 7 and 8. In Maryland we serve four schools in Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Anne Arundel Counties.
